Helping Oscar Olguin

Oscar Olguin’s platoon was preparing for one of the biggest battles during the Iraq War. While pulling security for a vehicle that held some persons of interest, a suicide car bomber headed for his detail and detonated. During the explosion, Oscar lost part of his right leg.

As an amputee, he wondered what would become of his life. That’s when he found DAV. Today, he fights to ensure his fellow veterans receive the benefits they have earned through service.

“I wanted my tragedy to be turned into triumph for other veterans, so I became a DAV benefits advocate. I also get to share how DAV changed the trajectory of my life,” said Oscar.
