A new mission

With a masonry job shut down during the winter and college not working out, northeast Ohio native Jacob Drost found himself inside a Marine Corps recruiting office. Not long after, he found himself serving as a machine gunner in Iraq and made it home relatively unscathed. After returning to masonry, though, he started having back problems stemming from his deployment. That’s when someone told him about DAV.

“DAV really taught me the value of our mission, and that’s veterans taking care of veterans,” Jacob said. “The victories we help veterans achieve are a testament to our mission that enabled veterans to lead high-quality lives ultimately with respect and dignity."

Listen as Jacob Drost shares the story of his service and how he ended up working as a benefits advocate for DAV for the past 15 years.
